Under the Dome 2x05 Recap
JARBIE! Angie’s killer revealed! Plus have our
heroes found a way out of the dome? Episode five of Under the Dome sure makes it look that way, but this show has
definitely been known to throw some red herrings at us in the past whenever we
start getting too close to an answer.
SPOILERS AHEAD!!
This
episode was definitely dominated by Big Jim’s ploy to get out of jail and
Julia’s attempt to rally the town behind her. Although Julia only managed to
get half the town on her side, Jim did manage to get himself and Rebecca out of
jail, though all signs point to him no longer seeing eye to eye with Rebecca
after she decided not to go through with the genocide scheme in the previous
episode. My guess? Those two won’t be working together for much longer.
At
the town meeting Julia asks people to participate in a voluntary food share
program, but Jim’s presence for his trial complicates things and a riot breaks
out, causing Phil to kill a man in front of everyone. Julia and Barbie force
him to step down as sheriff, something he doesn’t take too lightly as we later
see him very drunk and wanting to let Jim out of jail.
JARBIE
IS BACK TOGETHER! Yes! I know they haven’t really been together very long (the
dome has only been up just over two weeks!) but I really like this pairing. I
just feel like they make each other better. Their reconciliation comes at a
cost though, as it is only after all the food Julia collected for the food
share program was blown up that they realise they were both wrong and decide to
hug it out behind the burning building.
As
it turns out Phil was the one who blew up all the food, though Carolyn
unwittingly stumbles upon a hidden room containing the food they thought to
have been blown up. Unfortunately once she catches on Phil can’t let her go and
she is used as a hostage until Barbie is able to defuse the situation by
shooting Phil in the shoulder. I don’t think we’ll be seeing much of him for
the next couple of episodes.
In
addition to the food share program food, Julia discovers that Andrea has a
stockpile of food at her house since her late husband was a survivalist and had
a lot of food just hanging around at home. I find this a bit hard to swallow
but hey - anything to keep the town going under the dome for another couple of
months right? Julia decides to release Jim and Rebecca from jail, a decision
that could either be very good or very bad. I guess we’ll find out in the
coming episodes.
Big Jim vs. Julia wasn’t the only storyline going on
in this episode though. Junior takes it upon himself to tell Sam that Pauline
is still alive and that he believes Lyle was the one to kill Angie, all because
of what Pauline put in her journal. The two of them go looking for clues as to
where Lyle could have gone. Sam plants evidence in Lyle’s barber shop and then
just happens to “find” the missing pages from Pauline’s journal, which causes
Junior to reveal to Sam that he, Joe and Norrie are the other four hands and
that he believes Lyle will kill them all in order to bring down the dome.
Back at the Rennie household Sam manages to get
Junior drunk to the point that he passes out. Sam reveals that he was the one to
kill Angie and that he is planning to kill the other four hands. He attempts to
murder Junior but (luckily) Junior sleepily thanks Sam for looking out for him
and that he loves him. This causes Sam to get angry because he can’t murder his
own nephew and he knocks down a painting down by Pauline. The painting reveals
a hidden painting behind it of the obelisk in Zenith and the number 1821, which
is the locker number where Angie was killed.
The last storyline going in this episode revolves
around Melanie. We found out who she was in the last episode but that wasn’t
enough for her, so in this episode she, Joe and Norrie head out to talk to the
dome. The show is really pushing the love triangle between these three and it
only gets stronger after Norrie tells Melanie she’d trade her rotting in the
ground if it meant she could have her mom back. Ouch. Joe didn’t particularly
like that and somehow ends up smooching with Melanie, leading to a catfight
between the girls. Luckily Joe broke up the fight with one of the brilliant
ideas he appears to have in each and every episode.
Joe and Melanie take samples of their blood to see
if it differs but they can’t tell. Joe points out that Ms Pine would know.
Luckily Melanie runs into her at the diner and casually mentions they left the
blood at the high school. Joe tries to smooth things over with Norrie by
telling her that he loves her but she isn’t having any of it. Rebecca returns
to the high school to examine the blood, but instead finds Sam and Junior at
the locker where Angie died. The episode ends with the three of them looking
down into a tunnel below the locker.
So what did you think? I had a feeling that Jim and
Rebecca weren’t going to be in jail for very long, and it turns out I was
right. I can’t wait to see where they are planning on taking the tunnel
storyline. Could it really be a way out? Let me know your thoughts in the
comments below.
Stay random!
