Under the Dome 2x06 Recap

Episode six of CBS’ summer hit Under the Dome was full of exciting reveals and some deadly twists. The residents of Chester’s Mill found themselves battling a dust storm which could clog the dome and cut off the air supply while Barbie and Sam investigate the tunnels found below the school in the previous episode.

SPOILERS BELOW

Junior and Sam head straight down into the tunnel behind the locker without waiting for backup. After all - Junior thinks Lyle is down there! Luckily, Rebecca calls for Barbie and he heads over to the school to join the boys in the tunnel. Junior finds Pauline’s journal and picks it up only to trigger an explosion which cuts Sam and Barbie off from Junior and the way out.

At the diner Jim takes it upon himself to warn Julia that eventually she’ll disappoint the people and they’ll turn on her. Instead of getting all worked up about it she decides to reveal to Melanie that the egg is currently lying at the bottom of the lake. When she hears of the cave-in she rushes to the school to do everything she can to rescue Barbie, something which leads Jim to instil doubt into the residents of Chester’s Mill that she is unfit to lead them.

In the tunnels Sam lets slip that he did indeed know who Melanie was all along but he couldn’t think of a way to bring up that Melanie was his girlfriend from 25 years ago. I don’t particularly like the guy but I can definitely see where he is coming from. How exactly do you casually mention in conversation that the girl you helped saved from drowning is the same girl you dated when you were a teen? Barbie nearly dies falling off a cliff but Sam manages to save him.

Barbie and Sam have a really touching heart to heart where Sam reveals that it was Lyle who killed Melanie all those years ago. He’s not as keen to reveal that he was the one to kill Angie but he lets it slip after Barbie notices the scar on his shoulder. Sam tells Barbie that he believes he has to kill the other three hands so that the dome will come down, then says that he will kill himself for all the horrible things he’s done. In the hallway above the boys Julia decides to trust Rebecca (and strangely enough I do too) and the two blow the cave-in away to get to Barbie and Sam. Sam hears the explosion and tells Barbie that he will kill the three hands himself after he sees Julia and the others die because of the dome. Shocking Barbie (and me) Sam jumps into the chasm and falls into the darkness.

While Julia is busying herself with freeing Barbie and Sam, Jim is busy trying to save the town from the dust storm which could cause the walls of the dome to become clogged, cutting off the air supply. No one trusts Jim after what he tried to do, but since Julia is nowhere to be found and Jim technically saves Ben’s life after he stupidly went out into the dust storm to skateboard, the residents of the town decide to trust him and he rallies the town into making a windmill to clear away the dust. None of this works in Julia’s favour since Jim uses her absence as a way to prove to the townspeople that she doesn’t care about them.

Things still aren’t right between Joe and Norrie and they begin the episode arguing at the Rennie household. Joe packs his things and leaves, since he figures there’s no point him staying there if they’re no longer together. He ends up at Angie’s place where he is eventually found by Junior, Melanie and Norrie who inform him that Lyle is going to kill them for being one of the four hands.

The four of them make the decision to go and get the egg from the lake, and since Melanie was one of the original four hands they figured she would be able to take Angie’s place. That doesn’t sit well with Joe but being the easy-going kid he is he allows it to happen and the group recover the egg from the lake. Back at Angie’s place Joe and Norrie make up and the teens touch the egg together. It begins to glow and releases more pink stars which this time form the outline of an obelisk. Could it be the one from Zenith? My guess is yes. There can’t be too many of those in the world.

So there you have it. Sam admitted he was the one to kill Angie and then proceeded to jump off a cliff, Jim regained control of the town after not even twenty-four hours of Julia being in charge, and the dome is pointing the teens to Zenith. Looks like Zenith is a fairly important city this season. What secrets do you think the city holds?

Stay random!
