Under the Dome 2x02 Recap

The second episode of Under the Dome season two was just as good as the premiere, with some outstanding performances by select members of the cast. Colin Ford was amazing as grieving brother Joe and Grace Victoria Cox was intriguing as mystery girl Melanie Cross.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Jarbie!! Every time I see these two together I get happier and happier. They are just too adorable! After a cute little make out session in bed they discover a large number of monarch butterflies outside of the window. Julia puts her hand on the window and the butterflies immediately begin to cluster around it. Tad creepy but lovely symbolism.

Big Jim is as creepy as ever by making breakfast for Joe and Norrie in an attempt to get them to talk about the dome. Luckily they don’t and Jim is once again left in the dark. Joe goes through a tough time in this episode due to his sister Angie dying in the previous episode. Junior is the one to find her in the school and strangely her body is covered by monarch butterflies. Is this because she was one of the four hands? Also the locker she was locking into is once again locked. What was it that she and Melanie saw?

Speaking of Melanie, everyone thinks she killed Angie but Julia and Sam work together to make a very compelling case of why it wasn’t her. Sam reveals that Pauline draw something 20 years ago which looks very much like Melanie. Just how much did Pauline know about the dome, and what connection does Melanie have to it?

The science vs. faith debate is still going strong, though it is unclear who is on what side. Rebecca discovers an infestation of butterfly eggs on the town’s crops and decides that burning them is a good idea. Obviously it’s not and Jim has the idea of dumping pesticide instead. Barbie goes up despite Jim insisting that the infestation is his “test” from the dome. Luckily Jim isn’t a complete douche though and he saves Barbie’s life by telling him about a reserve tank when the plane was running out of fuel.

Barbie and Julia have a disagreement before Angie’s funeral which made me sad. They aren’t allowed to disagree they’re just too cute together! Julia is beginning to feel like she’s losing Barbie because of the science vs. faith debate, but since I don’t know who’s on what side yet I’m finding it hard to tell if these two will stay together.

Joe was the star of this episode though, as his emotional outburst about Angie’s death brought tears to my eyes. Barbie helped him through it and everyone ended up at the church to hear Big Jim’s eulogy.

I’m starting to very much not like Rebecca though. She says she’s all for helping the town, but after the conversation she had with Jim at the end of this episode I’m not so sure. According to her there are too many people in Chester’s Mill for their limited resources and “[they] can’t all survive”. Does this mean they are going to start culling the population? Because that seems like they’ll be going backwards from the progress made in last week’s episode when they realised the dome wanted them to stop killing each other.

Junior delivered the last shock of the night, arriving at his Uncle Sam’s cabin in the middle of the night and confessing that he believes he killed Angie. He was drunk the night she was murdered and so can’t remember anything. What makes him look really guilty though was having Angie’s bracelet, which he found stained with blood under his bed. According to Joe, Angie never went anywhere without it, so why did Junior have it, and why was it covered in blood?

Let me know what you guys thought of this week’s episode. Do you agree with me that Rebecca may not be the good person she thinks she is? And do you think Junior could have been capable of brutally murdering Angie?

Stay random!
