Under the Dome 2x03 Recap
All is not right Under
the Dome. But then again is it ever? In this week’s episode, while the
residents of Chester’s Mill were trying not to get burnt from the blood acid
rain, we were also presented with more questions rather than answers, though we
did finally get some insight into who our mystery girl really is.
SPOILERS AHEAD!!
Right from the get-go this episode sets up conflict
between Barbie and Julia. Heaps of sadness for me since these guys are my
definite OTP of this show but what can you do? This episode also launches
directly into the idea of faith vs. science (sound familiar?), which I’m
assuming is going to be a recurring theme throughout this season.
It’s fairly obvious that Barbie doesn’t trust our
mystery girl, but Julia does. Oh and does anyone actually care that this is
only the 13th day they’ve known each other? Yet Barbie lays claim to
the house in the first few minutes of the episode. I was half expecting Julia
to turn around and say excuse me but who’s house is this?
Possibly one of the more cuter reveals of this
episode... Big Jim has a crush on Rebecca! I’m not sure why I find this so
adorable but I just really do, even though I still don’t like Rebecca one bit.
She’s bossy and is forcing the entire town to fill out a form that will
determine where they should work. Right.
Joe, Norrie and Melanie return to the high school to
look up some specs for an experiment, while Junior returns in the hopes of
jogging his memory of what happened the night Angie was killed. Though Junior
has no luck with his memory, the teens find something even more interesting at
the school. They have internet. Joe gets an email from his Dad and Norrie is
getting twitter messages from the handle ‘houndsofdiana’. A few weeks ago Colin
Ford and Mackenzie Lintz who play Joe and Norrie respectively, tweeted out for
everyone to follow their friend ‘houndsofdiana’. Of course I did and now I can
see that the tweets from that account are the actual tweets from the show.
Cool. Joe’s email from his Dad makes him super sad and Melanie takes it upon
herself to comfort him. Norrie doesn’t like that. She doesn’t like it one bit.
Of course while our teenagers are struggling with
the internet, the rest of Chester’s Mill is busy battling the rain, which turns
out to be acidic blood. Rebecca seems to think that it is caused by poison in
the lake from the pesticide they dropped, however Lyle, everyone’s favourite
neighbourhood barber, believes it is a test. In an attempt to change her mind,
Lyle kidnaps Rebecca and tortures her with the burning rain to get her to stop
interfering with the dome’s plans with her science. Luckily our heroes show up
just in time to save her. Julia tries to use her belief to get him to give up
the gun, and it almost works but Rebecca uses the acid rain bowl to burn his
face instead. It is fairly obvious that Rebecca and Julia do not like each
other one bit.
Back at the high school Junior finds he has an email
from ‘houndsofdiana’ with a link to a video from his mom who tells him she’s
alive and hopes to see him again but that if he needs answers he should talk to
Lyle. Before she can say anything else the internet cuts out. Junior decides to
find Lyle since he and Pauline had a history together.
Since the internet cut out, Joe, Norrie and Melanie
decide to follow the signal to where it is strongest, which just happens to be
at the locker where Angie was killed. Melanie is able to open the locker which
causes Norrie to go off at her (which was awesome) and demand to know who she
is and how she knew. Luckily Joe has an idea to stop the girls from killing
each other.
Back at the diner Rebecca explains to Barbie, Jim
and Julia that it may become necessary to “thin the herd”. Julia is outraged
that the survey was a way to determine who is an asset and who’s a burden. She
storms out and demands Barbie to follow her but he doesn’t, saying the belief
will only get you so far. No not a Jarbie fight! I can’t deal with it!
Sam is just full of surprises this episode. First,
he saves Big Jim’s life but then indicates that he wants to kill him at some
point. Not that big of a surprise since I reckon most of Chester’s Mill wants
Big Jim dead by now. Second he visits Lyle in jail and the two of them discuss
how 25 years ago they agreed to keep something hidden. Unbeknownst to them
Junior watches them on the security camera but can’t hear what they say. Lyle
agrees to tell Junior everything if he’ll let him go.
Joe and Norrie discover that our mystery girl is
actually Melanie Cross from 1988 by looking at the yearbook from that year and
finding a picture of her the same age she is now. Earlier in the episode Barbie
and Julia found a picture of Pauline, Sam and Lyle in the summer of ’88. With
this show, I really don’t believe in coincidences, so I think that the three of
them knew something about Melanie.
What did you guys think of the revelations
surrounding this episode? Do you agree with me that Pauline, Sam and Lyle may
know something about what happened to Melanie? Let me know in the comments
below!
Stay random!
